Greygum forest

These abstract Australian landscapes were taken in some of the most beautiful rainforests and beaches of the east coast of New South Wales. They highlight the mystical and deeply spiritual nature of the Australian “bush”, which is a feature derived from some of the legends of the Australian Aboriginal people. Colours and shapes of the forest, trees, flowers, and, above all else the play of light, seek to evoke the feelings, emotional responses and spirituality of Australian nature. Some of the images hint at spiritual “beings” in nature that are so much a part of indigenous Australian folklore and which are vividly portrayed in indigenous art and dance.

These works are not manipulated images. They were not created by multiple exposures or by computer programs. Each photograph is exhibited as it came out of the camera (with only adjustments for lightness/darkness or contrast).

The artist’s purpose in exhibiting these works is to demonstrate the power of photography as an abstract art form and to convey the emotive and spiritual qualities of the Australian bush in a pictorial photographic style.
