John Phillips

John Phillips has worked for a number of years as a composer, sound designer, and music producer for film, television, theatre, and other media, building up an extensive list of scores, both in Australia and overseas.

Work has included feature films, documentary films and television series, as well as sound installations, theatrical works and orchestral commissions. (see attachment for list of works) A founder member of the group NOT DROWNING, WAVING, as well as producer and engineer of a long list of recording projects and collaborations, including productions for a number of commercially active recording artists such as Christine Anu, Telek, Archie Roach, Yothu Yindi, and others.

Projects have included recording & performance projects featuring indigenous performers from Australia & Papua New Guinea at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in UK / released on Real World records, WOMAD festivals world wide, Sing-Sing festivals at Hamer Hall & Sydney Opera House, and many other festivals around the world. 

John has collaborated with Artegiro from the start of the project participating to two installations with film and sound in 2010 and 2011.

John is currently Senior Lecturer at RMIT’s school of Media & Communication, lecturing into both screen & sound programs, as well as programs manager for a suite of sound and vision programs.

In 2013 John has joined old colleague David Bridie on a national Australian tour promoting the album “Wake”.

In 2014 John Phillips has participated into the special art events section of White Night Melbourne, Australia, within a collaboration with video artist Josephine Telfer and curator Renata Summo-O'Connell, Above the Sound of Many Voices.

In the 2016 edition John Phillips has again collaborated with artists Josephine Telfer and curator Renata Summo-O'Connell to produce Moving Mountains ( see clip in Works section) which has been shown at the 2016 edition of White Night Melbourne in Australia.

In 2014 John has joined visual artist Pasquale Altieri, nose-perfume maker  Rossella Gatti in realizing the installation Varsavia Blues, presented in Turin, at the Ex Manifattura Tabacchi in November of that year . John composed the Varsavia Blues sound scape which can be listened to in part here ( link di seguito).
