Llewellyn Skye

About me.

I don't want to make any political statements or think of abstract concepts or ideas, I just want to paint what I see.

My art practice explores people and animals in everyday life. Finding the character in each subject has been a rich and rewarding experience..the commonalities between humans & animals are never ending.

My imagery comes from collecting pictures and photographs.

My painting seems to be influenced by my sculptural background. I try to construct the form in a modelling sense. Each stroke or section is a building block for me as I try to create a three dimensional image on a two dimensional surface.

The technical process of a painting is my journey. With a strong background in drawing I find the issues of space, composition, colour and mark making at the forefront of my mind.

I'm constantly amazed by the never ending challenges and triumphs one can get by painting and I find myself totally bewitched by the talents of artists such as Jenny Saville, Ben Quilty, Toulouse Lautrec, Degas... and many more.
